Ayraq

"Kumis," a yoghurt product

Etymology

Pronunciation

*ɑj(ɨ)rɑːq

Transcriptions

Lao (酪) LH *lɑk

Part of Speech

Noun

Sources

Shiji (太史公書)(史記)

Notes

Dybo (2014) has Lao (酪), which she reconstructs as *rāk "koumiss," derived from a Khotanese *ragai ‘fermented liquor’; This is simply wrong. The radical form of Ge (各) is attached to other characters for its phonetic value. Such characters almost always form the syllable -rɑːq.
