Altay (Altai)
The Altay (Altai) Türks (Altay: Алтайлар, Altaylar) are a Qıpçaq and Saqa Turkic speaking ethnic group that are indigenous to Siberia, mainly inhabiting the Altay Republic.
Etymology
Altay is etymologically derived from Turkic *ɑl “red, gold” or *ɑltun “gold” and Turkic *dɑg “mountain.”
