Başkort (Bashkir)
The Başkort (Bashkir) Türks (Bashkir: Башҡорт, Bashqort; Russian: Башкиры, Bashkirı) are a Qıpçaq speaking ethnic group that are indigenous to Siberia, mainly inhabiting the Başkortostan.
Etymology
Başkort is likely derived from Turkic *bɑʃ “head” and *gɑ[d] "tribe.” -qort is likely from -q[u]ru[t], a Mongolized variant of Turkic *gɑ[d] "tribe.”
