Shimunek (2017) reconstructs *kʰirʁɑjt͡ʃin from Mongolic *kidu- “to kill” via rhotacization. However, a derivation from Turkic *kɨr- "to destroy" is more likely. Moreover, his use of Middle Chinese inevitably results in flawed reconstructions. Thus, the Mongolic deverbal noun suffix *ʁɑj has no basis. Instead, there is the Turkic deverbal noun suffix *-ɣɑ. The final consonant in the character hai (害) *gɑs anticipates the beginning consonant of the next syllable, zhen (眞) *-tśin, itself, a Mongolized variant of the Turkic occupational suffix *-t͡ʃɨ. Thus, Turkic *qɨrɣɑt͡ʃɨ “destroyer” derives Tabğaç *[qɨ]r[ɣ]ɑt͡ʃin “killer.”
